Ah, the thrill of the find! While out in Crystal Lake tonight as I begin my weekend dogsitting extravaganza for my sister and husband's two dogs and my parents dogs, I decided to venture out to a thrift store hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall on good ol' route 14. So many vintage/thrift stores in the city are overpriced these days, it pays to venture out a little ways from the city and pay a fraction of the cost! (it also helps that I have a reason to come out this far!)
The first find, a perfectly comfy arm chair found on the sidewalk on Belden near Clark. Just sitting there, (FREE!) waiting kindly for someone to pick it up and give it new life, which is precisely what I shall do! I have never reupholstered anything before, but alas that's what books are for! Never to back away from a new and exciting challenge, I just picked up a lovely re-upholstery book today to teach me ways to breathe new and exciting life into already such beautiful treasures.
Next, at the thrift store in Crystal Lake, there were so many wonderful pieces, I didn't quite know where to start! I found this chair that I will re-upholster/stuff the cushion and strip and paint the base, based on the fabric I choose for the cushion. I then spotted a lovely robin's egg blue piece that would be a perfect coffee table accent to fill perhaps with coasters or decorative matchboxes for my growing collection of delicious candles. Next, I found this fantastic 4 planter tin (with a handle that is pushed down in the photo) perfect for the little table in our kitchen to pot little plants or perhaps little silk flowers for an added pop of color.
Finally I found this rustic old serving tray. While I find it amazing and quite fun refurbishing old finds, there is something beautifully organic about a piece in its original form, topped with many years of wear, tear and of course love. So this serving tray I shall keep as is!
Total for chair, 4 plant potter, serving tray and blue accent piece = $11.19!!!

Finally, the painting at the top of this post, a three night project that I completed Thursday night. There's something just simply splendid about getting your hands dirty, covered in paint and glue and creating beautiful pieces!
Hope everyone enjoys the very hot weekend ahead and hope to have updates on my first reupholstery projects by the end of this upcoming week!
